An herbaceous evergreen perennial native to tropical eastern Asia, grown mainly for its showy yellow and green foliage. Plants grow from heavy, fleshy rhizomes resembling culinary ginger. Produces drooping clusters of pink, shell-like blooms in the spring. May be grown indoors in large containers or outdoors to form dense masses of foliage.
